Overview & Problem

The NEC Portal project was conceived to replace fragmented academic communication channels with an intuitive, unified web interface for students, faculty, and campus administrators.

The Problem Addressed

Existing institutional portals often suffer from cumbersome navigation, non-responsive layouts on mobile devices, and cluttered notice boards where vital academic updates get lost.

Intended Users

  • Enrolled undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Departmental faculty and examination branch staff
  • Prospective students exploring institutional programs

Team Context & Contribution

Collaboration Context

Independent student development initiative focusing on student-first UX, working in coordination with academic peers to evaluate usability and workflow patterns.

My Individual Contribution

Led the interface design and responsive web implementation. Architected clean typography, structured examination results interfaces, and modern accessibility-compliant layouts.

Features Actually Built

  • High-clarity homepage with dynamic event highlights and institutional milestones
  • Streamlined Examinations & Academic Schedules view with quick-access tables
  • Integrated Student Services directory for certificates and administrative requests
  • Responsive navigation drawer and desktop quick-links bar
  • Board of Studies (BoS) curriculum PDF access archive

Challenges & Lessons

Technical Obstacles

  • •Balancing high volumes of legacy academic information with a clean, uncluttered visual hierarchy.
  • •Ensuring rapid load times and crisp rendering on budget mobile devices commonly used by students.

Key Learnings

  • •Direct user feedback from fellow students revealed that fast search for notices mattered more than decorative banners.
  • •Strict typographic contrast ratios drastically reduced cognitive fatigue during exam result checks.

Current Status & Limitations

Truthful Scope Boundary

  • Currently operates as an independent frontend architecture and interactive prototype; administrative backend integration is subject to institutional deployment protocols.
